I called this work Like a Flower because, to me, it speaks about a quiet and natural kind of elegance. Not the kind that is perfect or polished, but the kind that comes from something more fragile, instinctive and alive.
When I look at this piece, I see a connection between the human body and nature. Some lines feel like a figure, others almost like stems, petals or a flower beginning to open. I like that it does not become one clear image. It stays somewhere in between — between a body, a gesture and a natural form.
The work is made on used canvas. Its edges are slightly frayed and loosened, and this became an important part of the piece. I wanted the canvas to feel delicate, almost vulnerable, but still refined. The texture of the canvas is visible and present, and it gives the work a more physical, intimate feeling.
The canvas cut-out is mounted on a backing, but the backing does not define or limit the shape. The irregular edges extend beyond it, so the form remains free and slightly imperfect. For me, this makes the work feel more like an object, not only an image.
The flower in this work is not literal. It is more like a feeling — something soft, elegant, fragile and human.
Media: charcoal, charcoal pencils and dry pastels on used canvas, mounted on backing
