Vanitas
140 × 160 cm
Vanitas draws from classical sculpture, Baroque movement and the idea of beauty as something both enduring and temporary. Fragmented bodies, faces and gestures overlap across the surface, creating a composition that feels abundant, almost excessive, yet still controlled.
I often return to classical art and sculpture as a reference point for beauty, not to recreate it, but to find something new within it. In this work, those familiar forms begin to dissolve into one another, shifting between recognition and abstraction. The title Vanitas reflects the transience of beauty, the body and the things we try to preserve.
For presentation, I would also recommend framing the painting, as a frame would give the composition a stronger architectural presence and make the work feel more complete within an interior.
